DAVID COCHRANE
David Cochrane with grandson, William Swann
David started his brass band career at the age of 12 in Agnes Street band. Over a number of years, he progressed from third cornet to deputy principal cornet before moving to soprano cornet. This challenging instrument he played for five years, before family responsibilities and a busy career forced him to stop playing.
During his time in the band David was a featured soloist in many concerts and on the radio.
Almost forty years later, David’s grandson, William, who had been playing from the age of seven, became one of the founder members of the Comber Youth Band. This rekindled David’s interest in playing and he joined the senior band a year later. Shortly after joining he became the band’s principal cornet player.
William joined the senior band in 2024 at the age of 11, making him the youngest player in the band. He plays third cornet. Like his grandfather, William enjoys playing music that is technically challenging.
